If you are one of these enthusiasts, then, the answer is, it depends. It depends on how you view weight loss as a specific goal. If you want to be buff, then, it will be best to go with strength training. If you want to see your numbers going down the scale, then, you should go with cardio training.

On the other hand, for those doing strength training, they lost mostly pure fat, which is why they were able to feel the changes in their bodies when they try to fit themselves into skinny jeans. Muscle mass will also give you a nice shape.

Strength training is actually the best way for building more muscle mass. You could be burning 120 calories extra per day, without even moving at all, if you gain at least three pounds of pure muscle. However, this finding does not mean that you should stop with your cardio workouts, though.
